With reference to your Confidential Despatch of

the 30th. May on the subject of the draft China (Companies) Order-

-in-Council, I have the honour to request that I may be supplied

for final consideration with a copy of the draft Order as amended

by the Foreign Office and as approved in the letter from your department o. 15401/13 of the 29th. Lay together with any further

amendments which may be made in the draft after consultation with

Sir H. de Sausmarez who, as stated in my Despatch of the 21st. of

June, expects to confer with Sir John Jordan on the subject.

I take this opportunity of stating that I

concur in the sugestion that the Deputy Registrar of Companies at

Shangai should be an Imperial Officer to whose salary this Govern-

-ment should contribute and this Government will be prepared to

pay such annual sum,

m, including proportion of ultimate pension,in accordance with such an arrangement as you may decide to be fair

and reasonable.

The other point referred to in the correspond- -ence enclosed in your Despatch under reference is that Companies limited by guarantee are not to be included in the purview of the Order. Their non-inclusion was suggested and agreed upon by Sir

William Rees Davies and Sir H. de Sausuarez and this Government

will
